How the Recall Works
A recall requires a 200-word petition signed by 15% of recent voters within 90 days. If verified, the mayor either resigns or faces a simultaneous removal and replacement election.
- Initiation: Organizers have 90 days to collect valid signatures from 15% of voters on a petition outlining grounds for removal.
- Verification & Resignation: After the Board of Elections verifies the petition, the Mayor is granted a five-day window to voluntarily resign.
- Election: If the Mayor does not resign, a special election (>90 days out) is held to simultaneously vote on their removal and a successor.
